Illumination is a group project that was conceived by myself, Heather Personett and Eric Von Hasseln at SUNY Fredonia. The concept of this short animation revolves around one man seemingly trapped in a post  apocalyptic world.  He is befriended by an unlikely Crow who helps him find the answers he's been looking for.

A Motion Graphic Animation and Illustration series that shows some aspects of Modern Warfare subjectively.  It is based on a memoir.
“The Last True Story I’ll Ever Tell”, written by John Crawford inspired me to explore the visual realities of modern warfare. Using imagery of the invasion of Iraq I have constructed a narrative that is loosely based on the accounts of Crawford. this piece is not meant to suggest any specific political view or promote violence, it is simply meant to exercise the associative parts of our brains.

Horatio G Brooks and The Brooks Locomotive Works

Brooks began his Railroad Career during the construction of the New York and Erie Railroad. He quickly was promoted to superintendent of the Erie RR Locomotive shops. Upon its completion in 1851, it was the longest Railroad in the world, it stretched across New York State from The Hudson River in the East To Dunkirk on the Banks of Lake Erie. Dunkirk was originally meant to be the main shipping hub from New York to Canada.  However it was soon realized that Buffalo was better suited for that purpose.  This caused the Erie to move its shops to Buffalo, potentially costing Dunkirk hundreds of jobs.  Brooks helped save the town in 1869 by purchasing the Locomotive shops and creating the Brooks Locomotive Works.

I used a mixed media approach, Drawing, Printmaking, collage and photoshop were all utilized.  The images were collected from historical references.  They reinterpreted the life of Brooks and the community he helped create.

MobyDick Adaptation

This series concentraits on the depiction of Herman Melville's novel and recent comic adaptaitons. The form of the series is meant to emulate modern comic books. Themes from the novel that inspired me were obsession, pragmatism, revenge and idealism. Each image represents one of these themes.

Alice and Wonderland Adaptation

This series explores methods of mixed media. Cut news print, illustration board and wood are used to give the Illustrations actual depth. The drawings of Alice and the other characters are done with pen and ink. The collage process allowed me to focus on the creation of the unique background envionment

Anecdote of the Jar
Wallace Stevens

I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
It made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.

The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.

It took dominion every where.
The jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush,
Like nothing else in Tennessee.
